The biennial
Since 1984, the event has offered unique encounters and performances throughout the month of September.
This year, the inaugural parade will feature eight groups and one guest group as part of the France-Brazil year.
The programming offer
The parade is broadcast live in native UHD HDR. In addition to the live broadcasts, reruns from the previous day and archived programs will be available. These are HD programs upscaled to UHD (upscaling = software conversion).
As for HDR, it was decided to experiment with two market standards: Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The standard is accessible to everyone, regardless of their TV brand.
- Thursday, September 4: channel launch - opening loop (teaser)
- Saturday, September 6: start of programs - archived programs
- Sunday, September 7: live broadcast of the parade - archived programs + live native UHD HDR around 4 p.m. (approximately 2.5 hours)
- Monday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 9: archived programs + live replay
- Wednesday, September 10 and Thursday, September 11: end of programming - closing loop

France Télévisions and Ultra HD
France Télévisions has been working on Ultra HD for several years, with productions such as coverage of Roland Garros and the Grand Raid de La Réunion. Until 2023, these productions were experimental and few viewers had access to them.
The year 2024 marks a turning point: in anticipation of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Arcom has authorized the creation of France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD on DTT (channels 52 and 53 in mainland France and 22 and 23 overseas). The first transmitters will be switched on at the end of 2023 so that by June 2024, 74.7% of the population will be covered. At the same time, France Télévisions is equipping itself to produce and broadcast a UHD signal on a permanent basis.
The first full-scale UHD broadcast will be Roland Garros in June on France 2 UHD.
This will be followed by the Paris Olympics on France 2 UHD and France 3 UHD.
On December 7 and 8, the reopening of Notre Dame de Paris will be broadcast in Ultra HD on France 2 UHD.
In 2025, an event channel, Martinique la 1ère UHD, broadcast the Martinique carnival in UHD from March 2 to 5.
Ultra-HD in a nutshell
Ultra-HD is an improvement on current HD based on several criteria.
Ultra HD in a nutshell
Ultra HD is an improvement on current HD based on several criteria.
In the case of the biennial, the following choices were made:
- Increased spatial definition: the number of pixels in an image is quadrupled (from 2 to 8 million), resulting in an image with much greater detail
- Increased frame rate: from 25 to 50 frames per second, movements are smoother and motion blur is reduced.
- HDR standard: greater dynamic range of gray levels and change in color space, resulting in better contrast and more accurately reproduced colors (1 billion shades instead of 15 million).
With more detail, more colors, and greater sharpness, Ultra HD offers images that are closer to reality and therefore more engaging for viewers.
To enjoy Ultra HD programming, you must have a compatible TV and be located in an area eligible for DTT, have satellite reception, or subscribe to a partner Internet service provider.
