With the development of generative AI, it is becoming increasingly difficult to mke a difference between authentic videos and those generated by AI when browsing the internet. In its commitment to transparency, France Télévisions wants to be able to guarantee its content to its audiences by adopting the C2PA protocol.

    What is C2PA?

In February 2021, the C2PA consortium was created, bringing together digital and media leaders. The collaborative effort focuses on establishing a standard for certifying the source and history of digital content.

Several AI-generated content production companies, such as Adobe and OpenAI, have already adopted this protocol to identify images generated by artificial intelligence.

The C2PA standard works by embedding specific metadata, considered a digital signature, into the video. If the video player on the platform you are viewing (YouTube, social media, replay sites, etc.) is CP2A-compatible, the CR (Content Credential) logo will appear on (or near) the image.

France Télévisions, leader in implementing the standard, congratulated by the EBU!

The news department, for which trust with the public is fundamental, asked its medialab to organise a proof of concept. Between October 2024 and January 2025, France Télévisions engineers worked with those at DALET, our news production tool, to see how to implement an automatic process for tagging videos from the 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. news programmes. The results of this study were presented at the EBU Production Technical Seminar on 25 and 26 January 2025 in Geneva.

In June, France Télévisions received the EBU Technology Award in Geneva.

A specific page Retrouvez nos JT certifiés (Find our certified news programmes) is available on franceinfo, where you can find the latest 1pm and 8pm news programmes that comply with the C2PA standard. See also the page Pour vous informer en toute sécurité (For transparent information).
